Little known Valentine mascot, legends tell of the affectionate armadillo delivering candies and cards to the families of the world.
Or, more realistically, the Valentine Armadillo was something my family and I did growing up. I don’t recall exactly how we arrived at that mascot but it was something my parents made up and we ran with it as our own.
This year, I had a vision in my mind of a King Kong-esque scene with the armadillo atop a sky scraper. Contrary to my depiction it was always assumed the armadillo was of natural proportions and could not breath radioactive fire.
When illustrating this I thought about the Valentine cards I’d gotten as a child—the sorts of cards that had gradients and cartoons and came in bulk.
